Everyone needs a good ole stretch and yawn first thing in the morning, and Zeek is no exception to that rule. Here I caught him mid yawn. If you notice, he still is bald on his chest. I have had Zeek for seventeen years, adopted from a previous owner, and not once in those years has he resorted to feather picking. Upon an exam from his vet and a clean bill of health issued, I began the process of being a detective as to why he is now plucking his chest. Later, it dawned on me.....well, duh Michelle...it's only as obvious as the nose on your face......Zeek began plucking around the time I began treatment for my breast cancer. Since we are so close and have been for so many years, Zeek has taken on my journey himself. Poor boy.
That is where this bad boy fits in. Zeek loves NutriBerries, but wants to find them in his cage...not in his dish or given by hand...he wants them hidden. I bought him this little toy and filled it with his "nuggets" as I call them.
Well, as you can see, it didn't take him long before he discovered how to open the hatch and retrieve his yummy nugget. This is only a small part of what I am doing with him to enrich his life with stimulating work and play. He is now growing feathers under his wing, however, the chest remains bare. My work is not done here yet people. Keep checking in....more to come!
I hope he isn't copying Timothy's bad behavior.
